Retreat drawings/ sketches, photography and paintings

 Silent Retreat

I did while I was on retreat.

Still learning. Look at a photograph for 20 seconds. Then try to draw with your memory. How many times I have looked at this photo over the past 19 years. I still have a time, trying to draw from memory.

Draw the same photo sideways. This was really fun. I was amazed how this was energetically.
I struggled on the picture above but with doing sideways it was so fun to see how your brain interpreted it.

I meditated most of the week, with small breaks for drawing and painting. This is all about drawing everyday, right? Here is the assignment: Symbols in drawing.

 Hatha Yoga in the light

Tree in the woods
Drawing of tree above

Drawing and water color on the right. This was more of a sketch, done in charcoal. I then added watercolors.

Picture of the farm house and orchard. This took two days, Charcoal and watercolors.
A good practice.

When I arrived home, I continued Assignment 6

This was very faint in pencil. I lightened it on a iPhone app.

I still have the sketch to do on Assignment 6. Until tomorrow.

I love photography too.

Lesson 4 Drawing Lines.

Lesson 4

Class on drawing lines

# 1 Draw your hand, without looking.

#2  Draw your hand, with looking only 50% of the time

# 3 Draw your hand while looking completely

Sketch pad assignment Draw the shown artist:  Copying a master artists work: Alphonse Mucha
The assignment was to draw for an hour. I did not finish. It was extremely difficult. I am glad that I re-read the class assignment and the instructor said this was very difficult.
Reason????
To train the eye! to make lines.
This was one of the hardest and intense things I have done? Not sure I actually liked it, either. I am trying to come from a place of calmness when I draw, not of intensity or a need for it to look perfect. That is where the mind, gives up and wants to scribble it out out on the page!!

Until next time.

Painting course:First video/ three sketch assignments done

I am beginning the course on line this summer and trying to draw and move into painting. It is a way to forget the self, be mindful, concentrate and move into a zone.
I am hoping that I will get of course better over time. I am taking the online course. Its fun, but you have to make a commitment to draw everyday.

Just as you would practice an instrument. I have practiced playing a harmonium for over 18 years.
I use to practice everyday for 45 minutes to one hour a day. Now I practice a few minutes a day in my classroom everyday.

So I will have to discipline myself to draw everyday? Why ?

Well just to tap into my inspiration and love of art and it will help my role as a teacher to share my techniques with others. I have also wanted to find, my niche? My style like so many children's literature artists? I love the way illustrator Joan Rankin, has created her own style in: Mrs. McTats  and her houseful of cats. t  I don't know if this can happen ever, but I  love  to learn new things each day.
But this will be a journey.
So here goes!

Getting warmed up: Table in our living room. Wow do I need help with shapes. Looks like something out of Van Gogh painting? Little lopsided/

First assignment: Draw something small on a table. A little small vase

Assignment 2 Draw a corner of a room going the length of the scratch pad and using the whole space.  Well that was difficult. Doors????? I have to learn to make STRAIGHT LINES. Maybe a straight edge?

Assignment 3 Self Portrait.
Oh, My. That I have never done before? Have a long way to go on this one:)

Ok, a blog written, and three assigmnents finished. See you tomorrow.
